Atlantic hurricane season beginning to heat up

Current NHC outlooks

The Atlantic hurricane season is currently active, with forecasters keeping a close eye on several areas for potential development. As of the latest outlook from the National Hurricane Center, advisories are being issued for Tropical Storm Dexter, located over the northwestern Atlantic Ocean. While this storm is moving away from the U.S. coast, it is a reminder that the season is in full swing.

In addition to Dexter, there are two other areas of interest.  A tropical wave off the west coast of Africa has a medium chance of gradual development over the next seven days as it moves west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic. A broad area of low pressure is also expected to form a few hundred miles off the coast of the southeastern United States in the coming days, with a low chance of development.

Sea surface temperatures remain warmer than average, which can provide fuel for storm development. However, wind shear has been acting as a limiting factor in some regions, preventing some disturbances from intensifying significantly. It's crucial for residents in hurricane-prone areas to stay informed and prepared. Review your hurricane plans, ensure your emergency kits are stocked, and monitor official weather forecasts from trusted sources. Vigilance and preparedness are key throughout the hurricane season.
